The Robin Hood of Korea

From the Summer Writing Class on Main Campus:

2A Class Gi Hwan Sung

A long time ago, a famous thief named Bong lived in Korea. He was medium height and Korean average weight. He had short black hair, a beard and dimples. He was young and athletic. He was very intelligent and brave. One day, he heard an interesting story. The story was about a great king’s tomb that had many treasures. This tomb was hidden behind a traditional door in the outskirts of Seoul. The traditional door was made of many kinds of wood and rocks. Rock stairs were located in front of the door. Some trees and pink flowers were located around the door.

People said “Ghosts live in the tomb”. Many other thieves went to the tomb but they scared by the ghost story. They never saw a ghost, but they imagined the ghost. They made themselves scared. Every thief failed to open the door and enter the tomb. Hong tried but failed too. Hong thought “It’s too hard to open by one person.”

He decided to buy a useful tool. He went to the shop and tried to find a tool. The shop owner was Bong’s friend. Bong talked to him about tomb. The owner listened to Bong’s talk and recommended that he meet a person who was a popular woman thief. Bong’s friend described a thief as a woman with long curly hair and a scar on her left cheek. Bong went to Mt. Nam to meet her.

When he arrived at Mt. Nam, he met her. He asked her “If I get the treasures, I will share that with you. Will you help me?” She answered “Did you go to the tomb? I heard there were many ghosts there.” He told her. “Don’t worry about that. I went there already, but ghosts did not exist.” She decided to work together him. They planned to enter the tomb. They bought some essential tools additionally.

A week later they went to the tomb at midnight. That night was foggy. The moon was hidden by dark clouds. Some stars were twinkling as the only light. They checked their tools outside of the traditional door. They breathed deeply when in front of the tomb’s door. Bong tried to open the door. His partner assisted him. She felt nervous but excited. Eventually they opened the door and went into the tomb. Inside was a very amazing sight and a huge space. It was very spectacular. They were surprised at the sight because many words and pictures were drawn on the wall. These words and pictures were a story about the king’s life after death. The King met a God and met his friends and wives. He lived in an apartment!

Bong and his partner didn’t know the structure on the wall. The picture’s structure was very tall and many people lived in a building. They didn’t believe that. It was too different from their house. They lived where a family lived in each house, not a shared building with other people.

They went deeply into tomb. Some traps interrupted them and made a dark sight. Nevertheless, finally they found the treasure room. They shouted and clapped their hands together. They put treasures into their bags. They went out two times later. They signed their name on the wall. The sign was “We received this tomb and went July 3, XXXX” They went back to their base camp. First time they shared treasure. After a few minutes suddenly Hong said “I want these treasures to share with poor people.” His partner thought for a few minutes and said “That’s a brilliant idea, it is a lot of treasure, so we have to share these things with poor people.” After that day, they went around Seoul and gave money, gold and jewelry to poor people.
